Bespoke Waterfall & Water Feature Installation Norfolk & Suffolk
Here at Valley Pond Maintenance, we build bespoke water features such as waterfalls and rock pools throughout Norfolk and Suffolk. Our ponds and water features are built from hand picked natural rockery stone, straight from source to ensure the best quality stone is selected for size, colour and aesthetics.
Slate is one of our favourite types of stone to use due its durability, colours and formation, below is some pictures of recent work we have done using Cornish slate and an insight into how slate is formed over millions of years.
Slate is formed by a metamorphosis of clay, shale and volcanic ash over millions of years that results to a fine-grained foliated rock, resulting in unique slate textures. It is a metamorphic rock, being the finest grained foliated of its kind. It is composed mainly of the minerals quartz and muscovite or illite, often along with biotite, chlorite, hematite and pyrite and less frequently, graphite, kaolinite, magnetite, tourmaline, or zircon as well as feldspar.
Quartz, is one of the compositions that build up the slate and can be found in our sourced stone, it is a mineral comprised of silicon and oxygen. Being one of the most well known minerals on earth, it occurs in basically all mineral environments and is the important make up of many rocks. Varieties of quartz are usually known as gemstones and are normally used in making jewellery and carvings in hard stone.
